September 11, 2017 - Reading Log #1 // The Icebound Land by John Flanagan
There are 3 main characters in this book: Halt, Will, and Evalyn. Halt is a highly qualifies ranger that protects the kingdom. He is also Will's mentor. Will is a rangers apprentice basically like a trainee, training to be a ranger. Evalyn is the crown princess of Araluen. They are all important because they will be the heros in this book. Will is positive and determined to get back to the kingdom, since they got kidnapped. Halt is basically sad, mad and determined as well to find Will, his apprentice. Evalyn is like the type of person that is scared and besicaly gave up. Well Halt basically stays static because he is always determined to find Will. According to page 14, it states, "'Look,' he said in a milder tone, 'just help me clear up this Foldar business. Two months, maybe three, then you can after Will, with my blessing.' Halt's grizzles head was already shaking before he'd finished. 'In two months he could be dead. Or sold on as a slave and lost forever. I need to go now while the trial is still warm. I promised him,' he added after a pause, his voice thick with misery." According to page 28, it states, "On the barren, windswept island of Skorghijl, Will was running, He had done five laps of the shingle beach." Will is static because he is still determined and ready to get back to Araluen. Evalyn stays static because she gave up because according to page 29, it states, "She had dismissed the idea out of hand. She seemed to have simply accepted their lot, he thought. She had given in, and over the past few days, their exchanges had become increasingly waspish as he tried to boost her spirits and talked about the possibility of escape-for he already had an idea forming in that direction."

September 25, 2017 - Reading Log #2 // The Icebound Land by John Flanagan
The problem started in the last book where Will and Evalyn were captured by the skandians. This is a conflict because Will and Evalyn just heard that they are going to be sold as slaves. This problem affects Will, Evalyn, Duncan, and Halt. Will is always running and keeping in shape, waiting for the chance to escape while Evalyn is thinking and feeling bad that she hasn't told Will the truth. Evalyn's real name is Cassandra. She plans to be ransomed by her father to her freedom. The conflict is external because neither Will or Cassandra want to be sold as slaves. The conflict is both situational and personal because if Will and Cassandra were sold as slaves that would be bad for the kingdom, and its personal because Will and Cassandra do not want to be sold. According to pade 28, it states, "He might not be able to practice his archery or knifework, but he could at least make sure his body was ready if the chance came to escape." That proves my point that Will is always running and keeping shape, waiting for the chance to escape. Also, according to page 33, it states, "'Once I tell them who I am, I'll arrange for both of us to be ransomed. I'm sure my father will agree.'" That also proves my point that Cassandra finally told will about her identity and that her plan for freedom is to be ransomed.

October 19, 2017 - Reading log #3 // The Maze Runner by James Dashner
The boy in the story thinks his name is Thomas and he is important because he is the main character of the story. Thomas just woke up and he doesn't know where he is. Thomas is confused out of his mind. Some evidence is on page 1, where the author states, "That...that was the only thing he could remember about his life." This means that since that's the only thing he could remember then everything else would be so confusing. Thomas is also scared because he does not know what is happening. According to page 3, it states, "'Someone...help...me!' he screamed; each word ripped his throat raw." Just by the statement, someone help me I could tell that Thomas was scared. Thomas is static because this whole chapter he is confused and scared and he does not know what is happening. He is trying to figure out what is happening.
